The conditions are tough, but someone has to do it!
Len Wallis Audio in the Maldives !!!
Over the years Len Wallis Audio have been lucky enough to be involved with some very interesting projects that have taken us all over Australia and beyond.
We have installed at Hamilton Island, Norfolk Island, Vanuatu and lots of other out of state places, all the while doing this from our one location in Lane Cove.
This is something that we are very proud of.
So it was with great delight recently that we successfully involved in commissioning a new multi-area digital audio system for the Four Seasons Hotel in the Maldives.
Introduced by a current client of mine I met with the General Manager of the resort here in store whilst he was on vacation in Sydney.
From this it was agreed that Len Wallis Audio would design and install a new system in an area that many people would call the nicest place on Earth.
So with the agreement in place it was then down to work.
Designing a system site unseen is always a tricky thing and not something that we normally do but given the location this was really our only choice.
We spent many an email getting an idea exactly what was in place and more importantly what was needed to bring the system up to 2010 specification.
The one pre-requisite was that all the resorts music, which is purchased through a Canadian company would be stored on a Network Hard Drive.
This then would be broken up into numerous play lists that would be fed to a number of areas giving the guests a tranquil environment.
Each area would need to be independently controlled and linked with other areas if needed and of course different music needed to be playing simultaneously.
To do this of course we turned to one of my favorite system – Sonos – and produced what I feel is one of the more flexible and certainly most fun installations we have been involved in.
So with the design done next up was to choose an installer that would make the arduous trip to the Maldives.
Of course the volunteers came thick and plenty but after some thought on whom would be best suited the installer was chosen and given the ‘bad’ news.
Somehow Martyn took it better than I expected !!!!.
Next up we needed to ship all the electronics to the Maldives making sure everything was in place before Martyn arrived.
This was a lot easier than I thought and really from leaving us to the destination was a very painless experience.
Martyn left Sydney on a Saturday and arrived in paradise , or should I say the Maldives, on the Sunday evening.
Monday was spent evaluating everything in place and making sure that all was as expected.
No matter how much one can plan there are always going to be variables, how we attend to these variables is the key and whilst there were a few small surprises we were not phased.
Tuesday and Wednesday was spend installing the hardware, luckily it rained a few of the days so sunburn was not a worry !!!.
Areas such as the Reef Club, Sunset Bar and the Pool Bar were wired up with local zones and power amplifiers thus giving the staff the ability to control and adjust either via a hand controller which gives two way control or basic volume control from the amplifiers themselves.
Thursday came the day of commissioning the equipment, setting the server up and making sure everything worked as it should.
Testing started and the music flowed , smiles appeared and it seemed our work was done.
All in all an excellent job and one that I personally am very proud of.
My thanks to Martyn whom did an excellent job with the installation and really deserves all the credit for the success.
