Hi Chris,
The NAD T585 has been discontinued (in Australia at least, we notice that it is still on the European website.) There is no replacement. The closest product that we can offer is from Marantz – they have announced a series of Universal players which cover Blu-ray (including 3D), CD, SACD, DVD, DVD-A and handles DivX, AVCHD, WMA, MP3 and JPEG, both from disc or SD card.
We have been stocking the UD8004 ($4,999) for a while, and are expecting the eminent release of the lower priced UD5005 and UD7005. Unfortunately at this time we still don’t have pricing on the cheaper models. However if they are in the same mould as the superb 8004 they will be impressive.

HI Andrew,
The NAD would work well with the Aarons. They ae easy to drive (93dB efficiency), and while the impedience is 6 Ohm, they are pretty stable.

Hello Adrian,

Sorry to take a while to get back to you, but to be on the safe side I ran this past Marantz as well. Their reply follows:

From my understanding, it is the ‘audiophile’ or ‘purest’ nature of Marantz that makes them include this ‘PEAK’ indicator feature.

‘The indicator is to advise the owner that the analogue source – the pre-amp input level - is too high for optimum sound quality – ‘clipping’ at the pre-amp stage is starting to occur. It only lights up sometimes due to the variable level of recordings found on different CDs, SACDs, etc. To the average set of ears, this reduction in quality may not be audible. However, Marantz is advising the user that from a technical point-of-view, the sound is no longer optimal - and the input level should be reduced if possible. This is only possible if the source has a variable attenuator – and as you would know, many products don’t (I don’t think the SA8003 offers an attenuator – I don’t think any MZ sources offer this). If they don’t, Marantz provides the ‘ATT’ function to reduce it within the pre-amp itself, before main amplification.

If the user does not like the results of the ‘ATT’ function (fair enough), I’m afraid they can only

-	Ignore the ‘PEAK’ indicator advice (can it be heard?)
-	Play only CDs and SACD which do not trigger the ‘PEAK’ indicator (‘quieter’ recordings)
-	Use a source player which offers an attenuated output (not a great answer!)’

I hope that this makes sense, and is some help, although I realise that there is not a great deal that can be done (I am not sure changing the source to one that can be attenuated, or playing ‘soft’ discs is a great solution

	Regards, Len.

Sorry my comment/query is not about NAD, but I just couldn't resist the opportunity to hopefully get a response from the expert! I have a Marantz SA8003 and SR6003 (which i am very pleased with), however my amp flashes the 'peak' light on some higher frequencies when in the preset equaliser mode. This happens on the various Audyssey modes too. Im playing SACD's (classical to rock) and standard CD's. The amp manual advises to use the ATT feature to stop the 'peaking' however i find this significantly reduces the overall sound quality and enjoyment. Can you shed any light as to why this might be happening, and is it an issue for the amp to be peaking, even if there is no obvious distortion in the sound?

Thanks in advance!
