Apple Tablet - one concept put foward by the Sydney Morning Herald.
The reports of Apple releasing a tablet computer are anything but new, online sources have been reporting on an impending launch for many months. However these reports are hotting up, with a number of sources predicting a release late in January (the 26th to be precise!). Technology blog site Boy Genius even goes as far as to suggest that they may be releasing two versions. The Sydney Morning Herald this morning revealed what they predict it could look like.
While Apple themselves have declined to either deny or verify that their tablet even exists, there are enough rumors out there to indicate that there may be some truth to the predictions.
We believe that an Apple tablet will have far-reaching implications for this industry. There can be no denying that there is a swing to hard-drive storage and on-line streaming for both music and video sources. One of the primary drawbacks of this format is the interface. While at the top-end of the market people like Sooloos have the interface down pat, most are rather clumsy small format touch screens etc. or assume the use of a traditional monitor/mouse configuration. While the iTouch/iPhone does a reasonable job of this for many of the brands on the market the extra real estate offered by a tablet will make this form of delivery a breeze to use. It will also have applications for the growing home automation industry. Theoretically at least a tablet will serve as a very cost effective and convenient controller for many of the automation systems on the market.
The other appeal of a tablet is that there are already thousands of people out there who have submitted apps for the iPhone, and who are just itching to do the same for a tablet.
The concept of hard-drive storage and on-line streaming is appealing and growing rapidly. Throw a 7” or 10” tablet into the equation and you have a marriage that should appeal to the most critical of users.
