We have just received stock of the Sangean WFT-1D+ digital tuner. This component sized (430mm wide) tuner offers DAB+ digital, FM, Internet radio and is networkable (i.e. will access and replay music stored on your computer).
Australia has now officially commenced DAB+ digital broadcasts, with most Sydney stations coming on line at the end of May. To date there has been little option to receive this new broadcast format other than via portable units, such as the excellent Pure range that we carry
(http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/index.php/new-systems/digital-radio-dab-starting-in-may/). This unit – along with the higher quality Arcam – now allows you access to this exciting new format, plus internet radio etc. through your existing entertainment system.
Internet radio is available via the units Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, and gives access to over 16,000 internet radio stations. Once you find a station that you would like to access again in the future it can be uploaded to the ‘My Station’ folder on the tuner for quick future recall – plus there are 10 presets for internet stations for those very special sites.
The tuner has a built in alarm, plus a timer to turn the unit off if you are in the habit of going to sleep while listening to the radio.
One surprising addition, increasingly lacking from many audio components, is a headphone socket.
The best news is the price – the Sangean sells for $599 – this must be one of the better value products on the market at the moment.

I have a NAD C350 & C5411. I would like to add a DAB+ component to them.
Would the Sangean WFT-1D be suitable or are there other options?
Can you store programming?

Hi Glen,
The Sangean would be a good choice at the moment. There are a couple of other alternatives, most obvious being the Arcam, but at $1,290 it is considerably more expensive. We have had a lot of success with the Sangean, and everyone appears to be very happy with it.
The unit does not have a hard drive, meaning you will not be able to store programming.
