Both are still available, although we are down to the last 1 or 2 of the CD players. It is in silver.

Is the Musical Fidelity A5.5 CDP still available, and the Stable1 platform? Is the A5.5 the silver finish?

Hi Jim,

There are a couple of suggestions I could make.

1)	We have been running a special on Revox, which includes the Active Bass 2. This retailed for $2,499, and we have been selling them at $1,299. We are now down to our last (display) unit, and it has a small dent in one edge. I would let it go for $1,000 (bear in mind that it has an aluminum finish).

2)	The best new unit at $1,000 or less comes from Richter. They do a 12”, 200 watt sub – The Thor - (with a rated lower frequency response of 19Hz(?)) which sells for $999. There is a 10”, 100 watt version – the Krakatoa - (22Hz) for $699.

3)	We have a secondhand AS6 B&W sub for $800. We believe that this unit initially sold for $2,500, but could be wrong. It is in good condition.

Hi Rob,

Both of these models are still available. We have a handful of the 1008 model left, but are coming to the end of the A5.5CD. I realise that the 5.5 is still a little outside of your budget, but it is an excellent player, and obviously a great match for the A5.5 amp. To ease the pain a little we could ship to you freight free.

The other player that you could consider is again a Marantz, the SA8003. It retails for $1,699. Build quality is superb, and while not reaching the levels of the MF, it is a very good sounding unit.

Hi
I saw 2 musical fidelity cd players on you clearance stock list today which is dated as january. ?are any still available.
I purchased a MF5.5 amp before christmas & want to get better cd than my old marantz cd48. I would spend up to $2k (gulp) I'd like to hear what you think would suit
Current speakers are Tannoy profile 633, which may also need replacing. I'm only really critical of there lack of bass, but that maybe only because of the cd Thanks Rob
PS. I'm in Perth.

Hi Deb,

Firstly, if you have direct sunlight on the TV screen an LCD would be the way to go. (I am still a fan of plasma, but will acknowledge that under certain light conditions LCD is the way to go.)

Secondly you are correct, none of the receivers do DAB+ at this stage, any no-one seems to be in a hurry to announce that they will be first. However this is not an issue unless you are can avid AM listener. I still have a preference for the sound of FM transmission over DAB, but there is no denying that DAB is streets ahead of AM.

Finally, there is no problem with using a stereo receiver; in fact this appears to becoming more common with time. The audio out for any of your video sources (DVD, Foxtel etc) can be connected to the receiver, which is also connected to your existing speakers. Some of the better receivers such as the Yamaha RX497 also have inputs for video, although the connection between the receiver and the TV is not of the highest standard. Even with this receiver we would suggest taking the video signal direct to the screen. Most TV’s still sport an analogue out which will allow you to also connect the TV direct to the receiver.

My suggestion for a good quality, low cost receiver would be the Yamaha RX-397. It is a simple, reliable and good performing unit which retails for $599.

My living room is 4.2 x 3.8 metres, no carpet, no curtains. I will have to upgrade to an LCD TV & thought about replacing my shelf system (Amplifier 35+35 watts or 38+38 watts and 6 ohms) with a receiver. None of the receivers do DAB+ & will probably destroy my old speakers, which sound good in the space. Is it still possible to just have stereo? I am a 30 year computer veteran, but audio is very confusing.
