I am presuming that you mean a DAB+ unit when you mention digital (or are you referring to the more traditional AM/FM tuner?) If it is a DAB+/FM unit you are after I would recommend the Arcam T32. This is a great FM tuner, but also has DAB+ – Hi Fi World called it the best DAB+ tuner that they had heard. It sells for $1,299.
The alternative to this is the Sangean WFT1D+. This is also FM/DAB+, but also offers streaming as well. Very versatile, and at the current selling price of $499 it offers great value. The only downsides is that they are out of stock for a month, and the performance is certainly not up there with the Arcam.

The Isolation devices you asked about did work well, but we have now run out. In the meantime we have been having tremendous success with a new product called Vibrapod (See our new products section http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/new-products ). Most of the sales we make for this product are to people who have purchased a set to try them out, and have then come back for sets for all their components. They are inexpensive, and work well.

Len, I bought the Musical Fidelity A5.5 CD player from you recently, and am now looking for a digital tuner to add to the MFA5 amp and CD setup, what do you recommend and I’m also interested in how the ‘Isolation Platforms’ you have for $299 perform.

Hi Albert,

I think the best amp going at the moment for what you are looking to do is the Peachtree Nova. It features an 80watt MOSFET power amp (real watts), a valve pre-amp stage and a very high quality 24bit/96hKz DAC. It has four digital and three analogue inputs and a Class ‘A’ tube headphone amp. (See link below.)

This is really a very good sounding amp, and would work well with the Spendors. The combination will play loud, but not blisteringly so. Low level listing would be a treat.

It also comes with a remote, and the on-off function can be uploaded to a learning remote if you are using one. It even has a switchable home theatre by-pass in case you wanted to integrate it with your Denon.

wondering if you could recommend intergrated amp digital inputs would be good thou can use external dac if you could recommend one that goes with amp. listen to music some what loud to get that bottom end feel
but would rather listen to music at lower levels without losing that bottom end fill.looking for good sound for around 2000 also the amp needs to be able to be turned off and on as it fits all into music tv system. speakers are spendor s6e and denon avr 1705 recievr from when i had surround sound thankyou for your time

Hi Jim,

There are a couple of suggestions I could make.

1) We have been running a special on Revox, which includes the Active Bass 2. This retailed for $2,499, and we have been selling them at $1,299. We are now down to our last (display) unit, and it has a small dent in one edge. I would let it go for $1,000 (bear in mind that it has an aluminum finish).

2) The best new unit at $1,000 or less comes from Richter. They do a 12”, 200 watt sub – The Thor – (with a rated lower frequency response of 19Hz(?)) which sells for $999. There is a 10”, 100 watt version – the Krakatoa – (22Hz) for $699.

3) We have a secondhand AS6 B&W sub for $800. We believe that this unit initially sold for $2,500, but could be wrong. It is in good condition.
